GHOST
GHOST is a cycle of five invitations made to collective projects which, in the context of an artistic residency, occupy the space of the Atelier Real in order to explore different ways of presenting their works and freely programming this experiment for two weeks. Their name is an acronym of [Guest + Host] and it is in the dynamics suggested by this relationship between opposites that we lay the basis for a working experiment; in this case, between the one who is receiving and the one who is received.
GHOST encourages the appropriation of a ready-to-occupy house. Interested in the processes that can emerge from a set of conditions – a house, a collective action, a programme of activities – we wanted to invite projects that are moved by a desire for autonomy in the face of the need for a place to work. Regardless of their fields of action (the graphic arts, the essay, performance, vinyl and radio), these groups create a circumstantial relationship with space, activating other forms and media in order to work, such as proposals related to programming, editing, film, research and the (re-)transmission of knowledge and content.
GHOST proposes a second-hand programme. By inviting these five collectives we aim to destabilise their response models in order to discover each group in its state of urgency. It is the updating of the premises which guided their foundations, which are now functioning as a vector capable of gathering other guests around them, initiating a second generation. We are witnessing how the gesture of giving each of our five guests the keys to the residency also gives them the legitimacy to become hosts, whether they be old or new collaborators, friends, neighbours, or members of the general public.
GHOST takes a step back in order to think about the residency experiment and to take into account each group’s ability to settle in and move out, to determine the ways in which they would collaborate and delegate, and to interfere in the gap between the public and the private, and between the space and the tools that are used to make it. It enables an investigation to be carried out into the juxtaposition of five experiments, five ways of testing the artistic residency format as a way of preserving processes that emerge from a set of collective decisions. Five proposals for organizing and creating knowledge through practice, where the matter and contents produced are politically inscribed in the ways in which we operate, communicate and gather information.
